Each time I’ve taught this upper-level Latin class on the Roman playwright Plautus, there has been an option for the students to write a script and perform it, in lieu of an exam. Although the artistic production is far more work than studying for an exam, students have always opted for the performance. This year, with all of the COVID social distancing restrictions and with one student off-campus, we knew we could not do a live performance. So this was the students’ solution – to make a film, using TikTok to film segments, and having a film premiere instead of a live performance.
In the lead up to the film premiere on April 21st, I will post to the blog each day with an update as to how we got here.
